Now, I got your attention. I don't mean completely stop wearing Chuck Taylors for everything, but perhaps reconsider for bench press at the very least.

Here is why:

đ„Your feet needs to be flat on the floor, as flat as the shape of the shoe allows (IPF Rulebook pg18). So, as Chuck's wear, they start to warp and round upwards making it very difficult for you to display your shoe/foot being flat as possible. The rule mentioned the shape of the shoe, but you are putting that in the hands of referees. I have seen it and done it many times causing the athlete to re-rack the bar and modify their foot position because of the chuck before getting the start command. This goes with wrestling shoes too - bad shoes for bench.
â«ïž
đ„ Little arch support. Since the shoe itself is supposed to be a minimalist shoe, it has no support, so if you have collapsed arches or gate issues, these will not help and possibly make it worse.

My main comment of Chuck's is regarding the bench press. Squats and deadlifts, I have no comments on. But, if you wear Chuck's when you bench, take a video of your foot position and see if it is peeling off the floor. You don't want to get told middle of your attempt to have to change foot position as that will play a large part in leg drive and may cost you the lift.
